Lady Lions Start 4-0, Start Bahamas Trip Today

The Penn State Women’s basketball team won their road opener against the St. John’s Red Storm 69-53 to improve to (4-0, 0-0).

The Lady Lions started the usual five of Alli Brigham, Tay Valladay, Shay Ciezki, Leilani Kapinus and Makenna Marisa.

The game started off slow with no team being able to find the basket where only eight field goals between both teams were made in the first 10 minutes as Penn State trailed by 3. The Lady Lions eventually trailed at half 26-23.

Penn State scored 23 points in both the 3rd and 4th quarter to beat the Red Storm by 16.

It was a total team effort where all nine players tallied a point with no one having more than 15 points. The Lady Lions still had 17 turnovers.

The Lady Lions will take the court today in Nassau, Bahamas to face some tough competition.

The Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship is unusual compared to other Thanksgiving break tournaments as there is not a bracket, but rather 10 women’s college teams getting 2 games vs. other teams making the trip to the Bahamas.

The Penn State Lady Lions begin their Bahamas trip with a game today vs. the Oklahoma State Cowgirls at 6:30 in the Baha Mar Resort Convention Center. This game will be a tough first test as the Cowgirls only loss is to #5 Colorado.

The Lady Lions second game will be vs. #10 USC Trojans played on Wednesday at 9 PM. Both games can be streamed on FloSports Network.

If the Lady Lions can snag a win in both games, they can most definitely expect a Top 25 ranking next week which they have not reached since the 2014 season.
